ANGER management

Sometimes I feel like I need to go to anger management. I have such a bad attitude. I can be very explosive for no reason. However, I imagine if I went to that kind of counseling session it would go something like this........

Counselor: Would anyone like to share how they handled their anger this week?

Grumpy: hmph, I think I did pretty good considering the circumstances. Sneezy, sneezed me out of the house again, so while he was sleeping I duct taped his mouth shut. That'll teach him to share his germs with me.

Counselor: Well....., OK then, Grumpy you need to work on that. Does anyone else have anything to share. Aubrey, how about you? Why don't you share with us? First, tell everyone about yourself.

Me: Uh....um.....OK. Hi my name is Aubrey.

Group: Hi, Aubrey.

Me: I'm here because I'm a pastor's wife with an uncontrollable temper. Today, I blew up at my husband over something really stupid. I yelled at the top of my lungs, said some things I shouldn't have said, and pitched a tantrum like my twelve month old daughter. I'm pretty ashamed. I felt really bad when I read chapter 1 of James. It says that I should be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger. Furthermore, it says that my anger does not benefit God's kingdom.

Counselor: That's terrible. What did you do?

Me: I apologized, but I do this kind of thing all the time. I blow up and then fix it with an apology.

Grumpy: Try duct tape. It always works for me!

Counselor: Grumpy!! Aubrey, sounds like your trying. However, remember the first thing you need to do is give your sin to God. He will help you through your struggles. Second, don't beat up on yourself. We all make mistakes, and God knows this. Your Husband even knows this. That is why he continues to forgive you when you say your sorry. Finally, the third thing you need to know is to never give up. God wants you to keep on trying to control your temper. He knows it's a daily struggle, but He believes in you. He is confident in the fact that you can do all thing through him. Why don't you get alone with God when you get home?

Me: Thanks, I sure will

.............I know that was random, but anger is one of my daily struggles. I'm just glad that God is very quick to forgive. How about you. What are your struggles, and how do you handle them daily?

  1. We all can become angry at times it's what we do when we are angry which causes us to sin. We just need to find ways to deal with our anger, I use to walk away when I get angry I would tell myself that you will keep your mouth shut instead of saying anything especially while I was still upset. But the moment I did that the flesh is saying yeah now you don't have control they talking to you anyway aren't you going to say something or are you going to stand there like you are silly? See how the flesh talks to us in our own thoughts? It happens to the best of us but with prayer and asking God to control that tongue is hard but it can be done. So don't beat yourself up my dear, the next time you will be better and you won't yell...

  2. Girl, I have had a week like that. I might or might not have called both a deacon and an associate pastor a few not nice words... lol.

Sometimes as a PW it is hard NOT to get angry and take it out on our men, but I am so thankful that God is both forgiving and merciful! :)

  4. Aubrey,

I can have a few anger spurtz myself. I have learned to just go for a walk or go into another room until i calm down and then try to talk to my hubby. he is a runner and doesn't like to talk about things. I also struggle with saying not such pleasing words when i get frustrated. i pray and ask the lord to please forgive me and to please help me with the problem.

it's not easy and we are not perfect. We need to forgive ourselves and then really work on trying really hard to change these ways we need to change.

    I'm praying for you Aubrey!
